The Main Street Four-Point Approach
In 1977, the National Trust for Historic Preservation launched a new program to combat the deterioration of downtowns across America. This strategy is the National Main Street Program and it addresses the threats to traditional commercial architecture, the decline of downtown economics and the changes in shopping patterns.
Polson was designated as a Montana Main Street Pilot Community in April, 2006 and we have begun to apply the program strategy to help our downtown.
The Main Street "Four-Point" approach is a comprehensive, common sense program designed to revitalize traditional commercial districts and to help those districts compete in today's marketplace. It works because of the enthusiasm of volunteers and broad-based community support.
